The Science Of Happiness

I was recently shown a Youtube video entitled ''The Science of Happiness, An Experiment In Gratitude." In this video, a group of scientists conducted a survey to determine contestants current level of happiness. The contestants were then asked to close their eyes and think of someone who has played an influential role in their life. They then had to write as much as they could on why this person has impacted their life positively. Once the contestants had finished their note, they were asked to call the individual to whom they had written and read what they had written about them. The study showed that when we express our gratitude our level of happiness increases between four and nineteen percent. I am going to test this for myself and see if their study actually works by writing my Mother a letter that I will later share with her.

To my beloved Mother,
I just wanted to take a moment and let you know how truly special you are to me. You have always put Dad and I before yourself no matter what the situation is. You know how to cheer others up even when you are in the worst mood possible. No matter what time of day or night I know I can call on you to help me through anything. Your advice is something that I cherish the most about you. Your giving and compassionate nature pushes me to want to become a better person everyday. I love you more than words can describe and one day I hope that I can repay you for all the happiness you have brought into my life.

With love always,

  1. Fabulous Megan. It is a touching sentiment, expressed in a clear and concise manner. I also like the introduction explaining why you did this. I hope you shared it with your mom:)
